Director, Systems Engineering

The Director of Systems Engineering (Breast & Skeletal Health Solutions) will oversee and guide the systems engineering team to ensure the successful design, development, and implementation of complex systems and solutions. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of managing large-scale engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor a diverse team of systems engineers, ensuring alignment of individual goals with organizational objectives and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and guide the ongoing remediation efforts across product lines, ensuring timely resolution of technical challenges and implementation of effective corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., product management, software engineering, QA) to drive the development of new products and enhancements, ensuring system requirements are well-defined and adhered to.
  • Lead the systems engineering design, development, integration, and testing processes, ensuring scalable, reliable, and maintainable system architecture.
  • Define, implement, and maintain best practices in systems engineering processes to improve efficiency, quality, and overall project performance.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks related to systems engineering projects, providing clear visibility on risk status and leading resolution efforts.
  • Manage department resources and budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities while optimizing cost and resource allocation.
  • Regularly communicate engineering progress, challenges, and solutions to senior management and other stakeholders, ensuring expectations are clearly managed.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal quality assurance practices in systems engineering activities.

Knowledge:

  • Expertise in systems engineering methodologies, tools, and best practices (e.g., model-based systems engineering, requirements management, systems architecture).
  • Advanced knowledge of software and hardware integration processes, system validation, and system lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard frameworks and regulatory compliance, including ISO, IEEE, or similar standards.
  • Strong understanding of risk management practices and mitigation strategies in systems engineering projects.
  • Experience with system performance optimization and root cause analysis for remediation efforts.
  • Technical expertise in relevant engineering domains, such as embedded systems, cloud platforms, or enterprise systems, depending on the organization's product line.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 12 years in systems engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership/management role in a technical function.
  • Strongly preferred experience in medical device disposables and implantables.
  • Proven track record of managing large, cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience leading engineering efforts across multiple product lines, including complex remediation and troubleshooting.
  • Background in designing, developing, and integrating complex systems, including experience with system architecture, requirements gathering, and testing.
  • Previous experience managing both product development and system optimization/remediation efforts, especially in large-scale, mission-critical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to drive organizational goals and initiatives.

Education:

  • BS/BA degree required.
  • MBA, PhD, or advanced degree, certification, and experience are preferred.

The annualized base salary range for this role is $162,600 to $288,900 and is bonus eligible.  Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand.
